Empowering Our Community Through Technology
At PlayToCode, community is at the heart of everything we do. Our roots are deeply embedded in Charleston, and we believe in giving back by empowering local youth with the skills and confidence to thrive in the ever-evolving world of technology. We believe that coding is not just a technical skill but a gateway to innovation, problem-solving, and teamwork.
Through strategic partnerships with community organizations, schools, and local businesses, we bring Coding, Robotics, AR/VR, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) education directly to students, ensuring accessibility and engagement for all.
By working together with passionate educators, parents, and community leaders, we aim to inspire and prepare the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, and tech leaders.
Our Current Partnerships
Felix Pinckney Community Center (North Charleston)
Our collaboration with the Felix Pinckney Community Center provides an engaging 10-week after-school program, bringing our mobile learning lab directly to the heart of the community. This initiative allows students to gain exposure to essential technology concepts while having fun in a supportive environment.
The program is designed to serve three different age groups, ensuring that students receive age-appropriate instruction and challenges. Each group focuses on building foundational skills while progressively exploring more advanced concepts. Instruction is centered around our core pillars—Coding, AR/VR, Robotics, and AI—providing a well-rounded learning experience.
Throughout the program, students receive mentoring and guidance from experienced instructors who are passionate about fostering creativity and confidence in young learners.
FC Charleston (FCC)
Through our partnership with FC Charleston, we offer flexible after-school programs tailored to different age groups and designed to fit within FCC’s schedule. Students have the flexibility to attend all sessions or join on a drop-in basis, with each session carefully structured to accommodate varying levels of prior knowledge.
This approach ensures that whether students are attending for the first time or returning, they can fully participate and engage with the material.
Each session introduces students to essential technology concepts through hands-on activities focused on:
- Programming Fundamentals: Introducing concepts through interactive exercises that build problem-solving and logical thinking skills
- Minecraft Education: Going through interactive lessons that promote teamwork and creativity while exploring STEM concepts.
- Game Modding: Providing students the opportunity to modify and personalize games, enhancing their coding skills and design understanding.
- AR/VR Exploration: Students experience augmented and virtual reality technologies, allowing them to create and interact with immersive environments.
These sessions provide a dynamic and welcoming environment for all participants, ensuring that students of all experience levels have the opportunity develop their critical thinking and team work skills.
